Often, a lot of successful business owners stumble into their big idea just by doing the things they love. That’s exactly how young mom Eraiza Ramos found her way into her home business. In 2019, sometime after having her baby while she was still a college student, she started Eleira’s Crochet. “Ginawa ko siya para merong masuot ang baby ko every month,” shared Eraiza, who started by making her baby cute costumes, small dolls, and plushies.
Eraiza is a self-professed enthusiast for arts and crafts. She has been interested in learning to make things by hand since her grade school days. She says she enjoys painting, drawing, and generally being creative.
Now, Eraiza has managed to crochet so many products that her house is nearly flooded with all of her crocheted creations.
The whole hustle of Eleira’s Crochet was fully inspired by her baby, who’s now five years old. It’s safe to say that without her little bundle of joy, none of this would have happened at all. She wouldn’t have learned how to crochet, she wouldn’t have made anything, and she would not have had a home business to help her provide for her family.
“Kaya ako nag-aral mag-crochet, dahil sa baby ko,” she said.
Today, Eraiza is happy to say that the income she makes from Eleira’s Crochet is enough to cover for her needs, even if it’s her only “raket.” Her next dream for the business is to grow it by starting a rental service of her crocheted baby costumes to other parents, especially those who couldn’t afford to buy new ones every month. Growing the business would help her to earn more, especially now that her baby needs physical therapy to learn how to walk.
Eraiza’s ingenuity and tenacity to start her home-based business and make it successful is what got her recognized at the Gawad Madiskarte 2023, an annual awards event that honors the best Madiskarte Moms. She won this year’s Start Up Diskarteng Digital Award, which goes to the mompreneur who’s able to make their home business grow and succeed online.
